Single ticketing system starts by end-April – MMC
MANILA, Philippines — The single ticketing system, which sets a uniform policy on traffic violations and fines in the National Capital Region, will be implemented by end- April, the Metro Manila Council (MMC) announced yesterday.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora, who is the concurrent MMC president, said eight cities would initially conduct a dry run for the traffic scheme after the Lenten break.
“By first week or second week of April, eight local government units (LGUs), including San Juan, will conduct a dry run. We are looking to implement the scheme by the end of April,” Zamora said during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum.
He said the single ticketing system is ready to synchronize with the no-contact apprehension policy if the Supreme Court lifts the suspension on the NCAP.
Asked if the NCAP will retain the hefty fines imposed on motorists, Zamora said it would have to adjust to the centralized fines under the single ticketing system.
He said the deadline for LGUs to amend their traffic ordinances in line with the single ticketing system ended yesterday.
The Metro Manila Traffic Code of 2023, which serves as the guideline for the single ticketing system, includes the most common traffic violation penalties that will be imposed on motorists: disregarding traffic signs, illegal parking, number coding, truck ban, reckless driving, unregistered motor vehicle, driving without license, tricycle ban, obstruction, overloading, defective motorcyle accessories, unauthorized modifications, arrogant conduct of a motorist, loading and unloading in prohibited zones, illegal counterflow and overspeeding.
The fines for these traffic violations range from P500 to P5,000, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
Zamora said violators may pay fines online regardless of where they committed the traffic infractions. – With Ghio Ong
