MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos yesterday designated San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora as chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council for Metro Manila.
Zamora’s tasks will be on top of his duties as concurrent chairman of the Metro Manila Council, which is the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
“It is truly an honor to have been appointed by the President as chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council for Metro Manila,” Zamora said.
He thanked Marcos for the trust and confidence in him.
“We have been entrusted with important responsibilities that will configure major policies of the government in the National Capital Region, from economic development to healthcare, to peace and order and security, to traffic management and other aspects of governance that affect the millions of people living and working in Metro Manila,” Zamora said.
He said San Juan is considered the most peaceful city in Metro Manila, having the lowest crime rate, after being declared by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency as the first local government unit with 100 percent drug-cleared barangays.
