MANILA, Philippines — Two boys died and 30 families were left homeless after a fire broke out in a shantytown in Mandaluyong City yesterday.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the charred remains of the boys, ages five and eight, were recovered in the aftermath of the fire that hit Barangay Addition Hills.
The fire broke out at around 7:16 a.m. and reached first alarm, the BFP said in a report.
Arson probers said the fire originated on the second floor of a three-story shanty owned by a certain Marie Kristina Arceli. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The fire razed 10 houses before it was put out at around 8:37 a.m. The blaze destroyed P150,000 worth of property.
The affected residents sought shelter in an evacuation center.
