MANILA, Philippines — The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has deployed eight buses to provide free rides to government employees during the weeklong jeepney strike.

OCD administrator Ariel Nepomuceno directed concerned offices to mobilize vehicles for the “libreng sakay” program.

“This is to assist OCD employees who might be stranded in reporting to work as well as workers from both the government and private sectors,” he said.

Nepomuceno said the OCD mobilized six buses, augmented by two buses from partner-donors.

“The fuel and drivers will be provided by OCD,” he said.

Two additional vehicles will be fielded to pick up OCD personnel from five pre-identified pickup points in Metro Manila.

“The proposed routes will be from Monumento in Caloocan to MOA in Pasay,” the OCD said.

Nepomuceno said the “libreng sakay” aims to highlight the OCD’s social responsibility in helping commuters affected by the transport holiday.
