Suspect in New Zealand tourist’s slay charged
MANILA, Philippines — Police on Monday filed criminal charges against the man who allegedly shot dead a tourist from New Zealand in Makati City.
Makati police chief Col. Edward Cutiyog said a complaint of robbery with homicide was filed against John Mar Manalo before the city prosecutor’s office at around 10:30 a.m.
The complaint is in connection with the killing of New Zealander Peter Stacey in Barangay Palanan on Feb. 19.
Stacey was with his girlfriend when they were robbed by two motorcycle-riding men along Filmore street.
Manalo later surrendered in Pasig City after police implicated him in Stacey’s killing.
Manalo vehemently denied that he was the one who shot Stacey to death after the foreigner defended his girlfriend, claiming that he was asleep in his house when the robbery occurred.
However, five witnesses, including Stacey’s girlfriend, insisted that Manalo was the shooter.
