‘Finish Cebu bus rapid transit before yearend’
MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos yesterday ordered the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and other stakeholders to complete the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (CBRT) project before the end of the year.
The President issued the order during the groundbreaking of the CBRT project in Cebu City.
“I think that if we start operations in December, that will be the best possible Christmas gift that we can give to Cebu,” Marcos said.
He said the CBRT is the first bus rapid transit system in the country.
The groundbreaking kicked off the civil works for the four stations under Package I of the project, which involves the construction of a 2.38-kilometer segregated bus lane with four bus stations as well as a 1.15-kilometer pedestrian improvement, which will link the CBRT System to the Port of Cebu.
The nearly P1 billion Package I was awarded to Chinese contractor Hunan Road and Bridge Construction Group Co. Ltd. in November.
