Ginatan downs 102 people in Sulu
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — At least 100 people, mostly children, have been hospitalized after consuming ginatan served by the military in Sulu, authorities reported yesterday.
The 102 victims were boy and girl scouts, aged nine to 13 years, who were camping along with their parents and teachers near where the troopers are deployed.
Julkipli Ahijon Jr., chief of the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office, said some children felt dizzy while others vomited after eating the ginatan.
Ahijon said 56 of the victims were confined in a hospital while 46 others were sent home after receiving treatment.
Capt. Desford Masirag, public affairs officer of the Army’s 11th Infantry Division, confirmed the incident, saying the 11ID is investigating the matter.
