MMDA set to enforce Commonwealth Avenue motorcycle lane
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is preparing to implement the exclusive motorcycle lane along Commonwealth Avenue, the MMDA said yesterday.
MMDA acting chairman Romando Artes met with 1-Rider party-list Reps. Bonifacio Bosita and Rodge Gutierrez and discussed measures related to the motorcycle lane, the agency said in a statement.
The lawmakers proposed the “appropriate distance of the exclusive motorcycle lane, signages and road markings” that the agency should put in place during the meeting, without going into specifics.
The proposed exclusive motorcycle lane will be the third lane from the sidewalk of Commonwealth Avenue, according to earlier reports.
The first two outermost lanes would be reserved for bicycles and public utility vehicles, while other cars can use the remaining lanes of what is considered the country’s widest road.
The Metro Manila Council in October 2022 “approved in principle” the enforcement of the exclusive motorcycle lane along Commonwealth Avenue, from Elliptical Road to Doña Carmen Subdivision, with the aim of avoiding road accidents involving motorcycle riders.
