MANILA, Philippines — On the eve of the sixth anniversary of Leila de Lima’s detention, members of the European Parliament (EP) visited the former senator at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center yesterday.

Eighteen delegates of the EP sub-committee on human rights arrived at Camp Crame in Quezon City at around 12:30 p.m.

Among the delegates were Isabel Wiseler-Lima, Karsten Lucke, Hannahm Neumann, Silvia Sardone Ryszard Czarnecki,Miguel Urban Crespo and Ana Isabel Ruiz.

Human rights watchdog Amnesty International (AI) reiterated its call for the government to drop the drug charges filed against De Lima.

“It’s a travesty that she endured six years in detention after bogus charges were brought against her, in cases that have collapsed,” AI Southeast Asia researcher Rachel Howard said.
