P1.5 billion counterfeit goods seized in Pasay

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Bureau of Customs personnel confiscated an estimated P1.5 billion worth of alleged counterfeit goods from a storage facility in Pasay on Friday, the BOC reported yesterday.

In a statement, the BOC said personnel from its Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Intellectual Property Rights Division, accompanied by police, inspected the facility at Building 127, located between F. B. Harrison and J. Fernando streets.

The BOC said there are around 70 units in the building that are leased and used as storage spaces.

Fake Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Adidas, Supreme, Tory Burch, Skechers and Birkenstock products were seized during the inspection.

“These counterfeit items not only jeopardize these brand names, but also seriously undermine our own local brands,” BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said.

Intelligence Group Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy said an investigation is being conducted for the filing of charges of violating customs and intellectual property laws.
