Aparri vice mayor, 5 aides slain in ambush
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines — The vice mayor of Aparri, Cagayan and his five aides were killed in an ambush by six armed men posing as police officers in Bagabag town in this province yesterday morning.
Vice Mayor Rommel Alameda and his companions were in a black Hyundai Starex van with license plate KOV 881 when the assailants, who were wearing face masks and police uniform, waylaid them at around 8:45 a.m. in front of the M.V. Duque Elementary School in Sitio Kinacao, Barangay Baretbet.
Reports said the assailants set up a blockade using a barricade of the school to slow down Alameda’s vehicle.
Maj. Jolly Villar, information officer of the Nueva Vizcaya police, identified two of Alameda’s slain aides as Alex delos Angeles and Alvin Abel.
Van driver Daune Alameda was also killed in the attack, reports said.
The victims were declared dead on arrival at the Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center due to multiple gunshot wounds.
The assailants fled toward the nearby Solano town in a Mitsubishi Adventure with a red license plate SFN 713, indicating it was a government car.
Investigation is ongoing, according to Col. Camlon Nasdoman, Nueva Vizcaya police director. – Artemio Dumlao
