LAGUNA, Philippines — Two persons died while 20 others were injured in a smashup involving 15 vehicles in Calamba in this province on Saturday afternoon.
Col. Randy Glenn Silvio, Laguna police director, identified the fatalities as Julia Ann Riñon and Princess Sarah Abella.
The injured victims were taken to different hospitals for treatment. Four of them were reportedly in critical condition.
Reports said that a mixer truck driven by Denis Barientos developed engine trouble as it was traveling in Barangay Real.
Barientos reportedly lost control of the wheel, causing the truck to hit a car.
A smashup followed, resulting in injuries to 20 people, according to the Calamba public order and safety office.
Five ambulances responded to the scene of the accidents along with personnel of the city public order and safety office.
Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to property will be filed against the truck driver, police said.
