10ºC in Baguio; coldest day yet

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Visitors and residents woke up to 10 degrees Celsius Friday morning, the lowest temperature so far recorded in this city this season.

State-run Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) noted the record low temperature at 5 a.m., prompting health authorities here to remind everyone to stay warm by wearing appropriate clothes to avoid catching cold and flu.

PAGASA said the northeast monsoon, which usually occurs in October, is expected to end by March, causing colder temperatures in high-altitude areas like Baguio City.

On Jan. 18, 1961,  the highlands experienced the lowest temperature so far at 6.3 degrees Celsius.
