AFP names 2 new intelligence chiefs

MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines announced yesterday the appointment of two officials for the AFP.

Maj. Gen. Leonel Nicolas was designated chief of the Intelligence Service of the AFP or ISAFP. Nicolas contributed significantly to numerous victories in the military’s internal security operations, according to AFP public affairs office chief Col. Jorry Baclor.

Brig. Gen. Ferdinand Barandon, who was the assistant deputy chief for intelligence, is now the AFP deputy chief of staff in an acting capacity.

Baclor said Barandon has expertise in policy and capability development as well as strategic planning and management.

Nicolas and Barandon assumed their new posts following a turnover ceremony presided over by AFP deputy chief of staff Vice Adm. Rommel Anthony Reyes at Camp Aguinaldo on Monday.
