Man, son slain in Maguindanao attack

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A man and his son were killed while his wife was wounded in an attack by unidentified assailants in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte on Sunday night.

Haron Maulana was driving a Toyota Tamaraw FX with his wife Joy and their son Jerone on board when armed men in separate vehicles opened fire at them in Barangay Taviran.

Maulana died at the scene from gunshots to the head.

Responding police officers and barangay officials rushed Joy and Jerone to a hospital, where the boy was declared dead on arrival.

Police have yet to identify suspects and determine the motive for the attack.

Meanwhile, in Nueva Ecija, a municipal councilor was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Guimba town on Sunday morning.

Angelique Alexis Paulino, councilor of Santo Domingo, was in her car when two motorcycle-riding men shot her in Barangay Maturanoc, according to Col. Richard Caballero, Nueva Ecija police director.
