MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has recognized the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) for its intensified campaign against smuggling, which led to the confiscation of smuggled contraband worth billions of pesos.

In a statement, CIIS director Jeoffrey Tacio said the recognition would serve as an “inspiration and reminder for intelligence officers of the gargantuan task that still lies in front of us.”

Tacio urged CIIS personnel to continue running after smugglers.

The CIIS confiscated smuggled goods amounting to P21.655 billion at the Manila International Container Port alone in 2022.

Tacio said the figure was higher than the P18.190 billion worth of smuggled items seized in 2021.

In terms of anti-narcotics operations, the CIIS seized shabu valued at P1.088 billion in Barangay Karuhatan, Valenzuela City in March last year.

The CIIS, in coordination with the Philippine National Police, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Armed Forces, was also lauded for the seizure of 360 kilos of shabu worth P2.4 billion in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan in 2022.
