Man nabbed for ‘sextortion’ in Caloocan
MANILA, Philippines — A 49-year-old man was apprehended in Caloocan City on Wednesday after he allegedly threatened his ex-girlfriend that he would expose their sex videos.
Eduardo Balaga was arrested by the police Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) in an entrapment operation along Gen. Pio Valenzuela street in Barangay 78 at around 6:25 p.m.
The operation stemmed from the complaint of Balaga’s former girlfriend, a 20-year-old woman who claimed the suspect threatened to expose their sex videos and her nude photos on social media if she would not meet up with him.
Instead of heeding Balaga’s demands, the victim sought police help.
Seized from the suspect were his cell phone, a card reader and P300 in cash.
“Breaking the silence is a step toward healing and justice. If you or someone you know has been a victim of violence against women, know that you are not alone,” ACG director Brig. Gen. Joel Doria said in a statement.
The suspect is being held on charges of grave coercion, grave threat, violating Republic Act 9272 or the Violence Against Women and Children Law, RA 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act in relation to RA 10175, otherwise known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
