ANGELES CITY, Philippines — The city government of Angeles is preparing charges against several residents for slaughtering a dog for food.
“This is not acceptable. Dito po sa Angeles City, binibigyan natin ng kahalagahan at respeto ang buhay ng bawat isa, tao man yan o hayop (Here in Angeles, we value and respect every-one’s life, be it human or animal),” Mayor Carmelo Lazatin said yesterday.
Earlier, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting received reports that some residents in Barangay Lourdes Sur had slaughtered a dog for pulutan.
A team dispatched to the area identified the suspects as Amorsolo Guevarra, Amelito Henson and Jerry Mari.
“Killing and selling of dogs for food is illegal in the Philippines. This act is barbaric, primitive and inhumane,” IC Calaguas, chief adviser at the Office of the Mayor, said.
The Animal Welfare Act of the Philippines and the Anti-Rabies Act prohibit trading, slaughter and meat preparation of dogs.
