3 NPA rebels slain in Quezon clash
MANILA, Philippines — Three New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in an encounter with government troopers in San Francisco, Quezon on Sunday afternoon.
One of the fatalities was identified only by his alias, Ken.
Col. Ledon Monte, Quezon police director, said three AK-47 rifles and a bandoleer were recovered from the fatalities.
He said the slain rebels were with the group of communist guerrillas who clashed with soldiers in Barangay Pansoy in San Andres, Quezon on Thursday that reportedly left four NPA rebels dead and several others wounded.
Meanwhile, in General Santos City, NPA leaders Ruben Saluta, Presentacion Saluta and Yvonne Losario were arrested on Sunday.
The Soccsksargen police said Ruben and Presentacion are officials of the NPA’s regional committee in the Visayas while Losario heads a guerrilla unit of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.
The arrests were based on warrants for murder, frustrated murder and extortion. – Michelle Zoleta, John Unson
