LTFRB warns of illegal ride-hailing apps

MANILA, Philippines — Commuters should avoid using two Russian-owned ride-hailing apps illegally offering transport network vehicle services (TNVS), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman Teofilo Guadiz said yesterday.

He said the drivers for apps Maxim and Indrive, which reportedly offer cheaper fares, mostly operate in the provinces.

Guadiz said TNVS drivers using these apps are not authorized by the government and their passengers are not covered by insurance should accidents happen.

He instructed LTFRB operatives to apprehend drivers using these apps and impound their vehicles. These drivers face fines ranging from P50,000 to P200,000, depending on the vehicle.

The two apps could have been operating for the past six months but were investigated only two weeks ago, Guadiz added.
