Ex-cop’s arrest could solve Dacer slay – PNP
MANILA, Philippines — The arrest of a former police officer tagged as a suspect in the killing of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito could lead to finally solving who is behind their murders.
Col. Jean Fajardo, spokesperson for the Philippine National Police (PNP), said in an interview aired over GMA News’ “24 Oras” last night that William Reed III could “give a new lead” on the 22-year-old case.
Reed, 57, was arrested at a money transfer center by joint police teams in Barangay Poblacion in Pulilan, Bulacan at around 1:10 p.m. on Sunday.
The suspect had been a resident of Pulilan for three years but neighbors only learned lately that he is a wanted person.
Fajardo said they hope Reed would cooperate with the authorities and give information on the Dacer-Corbito case.
Reed is in the list of most wanted fugitives by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, with a bounty of P250,000 for his arrest.
Among those who were initially implicated in the murder of Dacer and Corbito was former senator Panfilo Lacson.
The Court of Appeals has cleared Lacson of any involvement in the Dacer-Corbito case, a decision that was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2011.
