CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Three persons, including a village watchman, were killed while four others were wounded when a grenade exploded during a brawl involving two groups of men in Cavite City on Wednesday night.
Julius Tindoc, 26, a delivery boy; barangay tanod Joseph Barrera, 53, and Mark Gio Layug, 28, were killed, according to Cavite police director Col. Christopher Olazo.
Barangay kagawad Alejandro Dizon, 45, and Erickson Valenzuela were brought to the Philippine General Hospital for treatment.
Arjay Camacho, 18, who was reportedly holding the grenade, was confined at the Cavite Medical Hospital, where tricycle driver Reymart Patricio Honra, 18, remains in critical condition.
Another suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was turned over to the city social welfare office.
Initial investigation showed the two groups were chasing and throwing stones at each other in Barangay 10-A until they reached the adjacent Barangay 11.
Camacho reportedly removed the safety pin of the grenade as village officials of Barangay 11 responded to the riot.
Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua imposed a curfew for minors from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. starting yesterday in view of the incident. – Emmanuel Tupas
