Duterte, Yap file bill regulating parking fees
MANILA, Philippines — Two administration lawmakers have filed a measure seeking to regulate the imposition of exorbitant fees in parking spaces.
Reps. Paolo Duterte of Davao City and Eric Go Yap of Benguet filed House Bill 5671 or the Parking Operations and Fees Regulation Act.
They said parking operators should not be cleared of liability in case vehicles or items in cars parked in their establishments are lost.
“Without a legislation regulating parking fees, operators continue with their anti-consumer practices,” Yap said.
“Aside from collecting excessive parking fees from customers, these operators also exercise the waiver of liability, which absolves them from damage or loss of cars that are entrusted to them,” he added.
The measure proposes a standardized parking rate for all business establishments. Under the bill, violators will be fined P100,000 up to P300,000 per customer and penalized with suspension or revocation of business permits.
