Senior military officers get new posts

MANILA, Philippines — Several senior military officers have assumed new posts, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced yesterday.

Maj. Gen. Alex Rillera, AFP deputy chief of staff for operations, was named commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division.

Rillera was replaced by his assistant, Brig. Gen. Glenn Calambuhay.

Brig. Gen. Fernando Reyeg was replaced by Brig. Gen. Noel Beleran as deputy chief of staff for education, training and doctrine.

Brig. Gen. Proceso Rebancos took over the post of Col. Celso Ressureccion Jr. as chief engineer of the AFP.

Col. Erwin Machica II was designated chief of the Office of the Judge Advocate General, replacing Col. Julius Agdeppa who served as acting chief.

Col. Ma. Dolores Lim was appointed chief nurse of the AFP. Col. Marilyn Tolentino will serve as Lim’s deputy chief.

Col. Geoffrey Carandang was chosen as the new secretary of the Joint Staff of the AFP. He replaced Col. Wilfredo Manalang III.

“These changes are part of the AFP’s commitment to advance professionalism and meritocracy in the military organization,” AFP chief Gen. Andres Centino said.

Meanwhile, Philippine Air Force chief Maj. Gen. Stephen Parreno was promoted to lieutenant general.

The AFP also promoted Visayas Command chief Lt. Gen. Benedict Arevalo and deputy officer of the AFP’s Inspector General Brig. Gen. Leodigario Macalintal.
