125 NPA rebels, Muslim militants surrender
MANILA, Philippines — At least 125 members and supporters of the New People’s Army (NPA), Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and Dawlah Islamiya pledged allegiance to the government in Leyte and Maguindanao del Norte, respectively, in the past two days.
Ninety-three members of the NPA’s Alang-alang Seksyon Komite and Regional White Area of the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee surrendered in Alangalang town.
Brig. Gen. Noel Vestuir, 802nd Infantry Brigade commander, said the Alangalang municipal government, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency office in Eastern Visayas and police were among those who helped pave the way for the surrender of the communist rebels.
In Maguindanao del Norte, 32 former BIFF and Dawlah Islamiya members turned over assorted firearms, homemade bombs and fragmentation grenades during ceremonies held at Camp SK Pendatun in Parang town.
