Raps filed vs suspects in Leyte mayor’s sis slay

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — Murder and attempted murder charges have been filed against four suspects tagged in the killing of the sister of Mayor Remedio Veloso of San Isidro, Leyte on Dec. 21 last year.

Col. Edwin Balles, Leyte police director, said the charges were filed against James Damayo, Archie Fernando and two John Does.

Juanita Veloso, 77, a retired administrator of the San Isidro municipal government, was in a pickup owned by her brother when she was killed in an ambush along the highway in Barangay Libongao in Kananga town.

Her companions and driver were unharmed.

“I commend the efforts and dedication of our police operatives in making an effective case build-up against the suspects,” Balles said.
