3,200 cops deployed for Lunar New Year
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) will deploy 3,200 personnel to secure the Lunar New Year festivities in the city on Sunday.
MPD director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said the personnel would secure the activities to be held in Binondo, known for its thriving Filipino-Chinese community and said to be the world’s largest Chinatown.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna had opened the rehabilitated Filipino-Chinese Friendship Arch in Binondo to mark the Mid-Autumn Festival or the “Mooncake Festival.”
The friendship arch is adorned with 800 bulbs. It is considered the world’s largest Chinatown Arch, which is 63.8 feet high and 74 feet wide, according to the city government’s public information office.
