MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), in coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), yesterday vowed to sustain the clearing of Mabuhay lanes and other major thoroughfares in the metropolis.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said he would deploy three teams to clear the Mabuhay lanes of obstructions.

He said the move is part of the memorandum of agreement between the MMDA and DILG to maintain the cleanliness of the roads.

“This is to prove that the government is serious in making our key routes accessible,” Artes said.

“Every time the MMDA, DILG and the police conduct operations, the cleared area will be turned over to the barangay captain. Those who will fail to maintain its cleanliness may face an administrative complaint,” he added.

The DILG said it would deploy a monitoring team to ensure that the Mabuhay lanes are cleared of obstructions.

The Mabuhay lanes, covering various cities in Metro Manila, are the alternative routes designated for private vehicles to avoid congested roads.
