Beware of unregistered cosmetic products – FDA

MANILA, Philippines — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned the public against the purchase and use of unregistered cosmetic products.

In separate advisories, the FDA identified the unregistered cosmetic products as Green Apple liquid hand soap, Simple Kind to Skin moisturizing facial wash, GT Clarifiance facial toner, Lashful Mascara, Lumiere Skin Vitals, Faceshop Real Nature Bamboo face mask and Nivea Energy men shower gel.

“The use of such violative products may pose health risks to consumers,” the FDA said. “Potential hazards may come from ingredients that are not allowed to be part of cosmetic products or from the contamination of heavy metals.”

According to the FDA, the use of substandard and adulterated cosmetic products may cause adverse reactions such as skin irritation, itchiness, anaphylactic shock and organ failure.

The FDA advised the public to check if the product they intend to use is registered with the agency.

The agency ordered stores and other establishments to stop selling unregistered cosmetic products.

Local government units and law enforcement agencies are asked to ensure that violative products are not available in their areas of jurisdiction.
