Dog meat trader arrested in Bulacan town

CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan, Philippines — A dog trader was arrested while three dogs were rescued from being slaughtered in San Rafael town on Thursday.

Robert Benavidez was apprehended in an entrapment in Sitio Hulo in Barangay San Roque, reports reaching the office of Bulacan police director Col. Relly Arnedo showed.

A staff of the Animal Kingdom Foundation reported the illegal activity of Benavidez to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Bulacan office.

The rescued dogs were turned over to the animal welfare organization for safekeeping.

Benavidez is facing charges for violating Republic Act 10361 or the Animal Welfare Act and RA 9482 or the Anti-Rabies Act.
