MANILA, Philippines — Police apprehended three persons in Cubao, Quezon City on Tuesday for allegedly selling overpriced tickets for Game 6 of the Commissioner’s Cup finals between the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings and Bay Area Dragons.
The suspects were Kenneth Peji, 21; John Limuel De la Cruz, 20, and a 17-year-old boy.
They were arrested while negotiating with a policeman who pretended to buy 13 admission tickets in exchange for P13,000 at the Araneta Center in Barangay Socorro at around 4:35 p.m.
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) said it received complaints from its fans about the exorbitant prices of tickets that are being sold by the suspects.
A report on ABS-CBN News said the suspects were selling upper box seat tickets for up to P1,000 instead of the regular price of P230.
Police said they confiscated 50 PBA tickets worth P11,500 from the suspects.
The suspects were fined P5,000 each for violating the Quezon City ordinance against the sale of admission tickets outside authorized booths and outlets.
