Man held for spy cam in women’s restroom

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A 49-year-old man landed in jail on Thursday for allegedly installing a hidden camera in the women’s restroom of their office in Mandaluyong City to spy on his female officemates.

The incident at the unnamed private company along Maria Clara street in Barangay Plainview was discovered at around 8:57 p.m., according to Lt. Col. Jay Guillermo, who heads the police Anti-Cybercrime Group’s National Capital Region cyber response unit.

Guillermo said a 26-year-old female employee of the company found a camera, wrapped in foil and connected to a power bank, beneath the sink.

The woman pointed to a fellow employee, Wilfredo Mendoza, as the culprit when she noticed that he had gone into the restroom and stayed for several minutes.

Acting on the complaint, ACG operatives went to the area and apprehended Mendoza, who was prevented by his co-employees from leaving the company’s premises.

Seized from the suspect were a cell phone and a power bank.

Charges of violating Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act; RA 9262, also known as the Violence Against Women and Children Act; and RA 11313 or the Safe Spaces Law, are being prepared against Mendoza.
