MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government yesterday urged residents to refrain from using firecrackers and instead watch the fireworks displays in six areas in the city on New Year’s Eve.

A concert featuring different performances led by rock band Silent Sanctuary will be held at the Quezon Memorial Circle at 9 p.m. tomorrow, followed by a countdown and a fireworks display to be streamed live on the official Facebook page of the local government.

Fireworks displays will also be held to usher in the New Year at Eastwood City open park, Robinson’s Novaliches, SM Fairview, SM North EDSA and SM Novaliches.

Earlier, Mayor Joy Belmonte issued an executive order regulating the manufacture, sale and use of firecrackers in the city.

Under the policy, private households are prohibited from using firecrackers and staging their own fireworks displays.

Only approved firecrackers and pyrotechnics are allowed for use in public places covered by an authorization from the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety.
