MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday advised motorists to expect monstrous traffic jams along major thoroughfares in the metropolis after the holiday season.

With the expected influx of vehicles coming from the provinces, MMDA Deputy Chairman Frisco San Juan Jr. said they are bracing for an increase in vehicle volume on Jan. 3, 2023 when offices and schools reopen after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“We are prepared for the influx of vehicles on Tuesday because Monday is still a holiday,” San Juan said.

He said the MMDA would coordinate with local government units, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Transportation as well as bus companies to ensure sufficient rides for commuters.

San Juan said about 420,000 vehicles traverse EDSA daily.

The MMDA earlier said traffic volume along EDSA had surpassed its pre-pandemic numbers.
