BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The distinctive morning chill in this city, which appeared late at two days before Christmas, was recorded at 13 degrees Celsius.
The drop in temperature was recorded at around 4:50 a.m. yesterday.
Last year, the temperature started to drop on Dec. 4 at 11.8 degrees Celsius.
Weather forecasters said the drop in temperature was caused by the northeast monsoon or amihan.
The highland chill usually lasts until February, a come-on for tourists who flock to the city.
The coldest temperature in Baguio was recorded at 6.3 degrees Celsius on Jan. 16, 1961.
