2 Chinese get life for kidnapping

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has secured the conviction of two Chinese citizens over the kidnapping of their compatriot in Parañaque City in 2020.

In a statement yesterday, the NBI said Zhihua Liu and Yuqiong Zhu were sentenced to life in prison without eligibility for parole.

The Parañaque Regional Trial Court Branch 295 handed down the verdict on Dec. 2.

The Chinese were found guilty of illegally detaining Zheng Xibing in a room at a casino in Parañaque. They demanded a ransom of P1 million for the victim’s release.

They were arrested by agents of the NBI Task Force Against Illegal Drugs on Dec. 13, 2020 after a friend of the victim reported the kidnapping to authorities.
