BOC seizes P131.9 million smuggled frozen goods

Robertzon Ramirez, Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Smuggled frozen goods amounting to P131.9 million were seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) during a recent inspection at the Manila International Container Port (MICP).

Customs Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz said the misdeclared items arrived in three shipping containers from China on Dec. 12.

The smuggled goods were consigned to Victory JM Enterprise OPC.

“We will file smuggling charges against the consignee. These smugglers have been making a mockery of our laws and the BOC itself for believing that their modus will work every single time,” Ruiz said.

The BOC said the shipments contained pork meat balls and duck meat without the necessary import and health permits from the Bureau of Animal Industry.
