4 ‘bandits’ surrender in Sultan Kudarat

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Four alleged members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter surrendered to the military in Sultan Kudarat over the weekend.

The surrenderees, whose names were withheld for security reasons, turned over their firearms and improvised explosive devices to the 1st Mechanized Battalion based in Barangay Tual, President Quirino town.

The firearms included two rifles, a machine gun and a round of 60mm mortar.

The “bandits” will undergo tactical debriefing to find out how to assist their remaining comrades who also want to return to the fold of the law, according to Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, acting chief of the Western Mindanao Command.

Rojas commended the troopers of the Joint Task Force Central for pursuing a non-violent campaign in fighting terrorism.

“Persuading our brothers who lost track to return to the fold of the law is better than engaging them in a bloody fight,” Rojas said.
