P7.2 million marijuana plants torched

MANILA, Philippines — Marijuana plants with an estimated street value of P7.2 million were destroyed in separate police operations in Ilocos Sur and Benguet over the weekend.

The anti-drug operations were conducted by personnel of the Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) in Sugpon and Kibungan towns in Ilocos Sur and Benguet, respectively.

It took the operatives almost seven hours to complete the destruction of at least 29,000 fully grown marijuana plants, according to PNP-DEG chief Brig. Gen. Narciso Domingo.

Meanwhile, in Bataan, an alleged major drug trafficker was arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Abucay town.

Ishad dela Fuente was arrested following a search on his house in Barangay Gabon.

The search reportedly resulted in the seizure of 109 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P141,200, according to Glenn Guillermo, PDEA-Central Luzon information officer.
