LTO proposes single ticketing system in Metro Manila

Ghio Ong, Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is planning to implement a single ticketing system in Metro Manila in 2023 to harmonize the payment of fines due to traffic violations.

LTO chief Jose Arturo Tugade led a technical working group meeting on Tuesday with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and local government unit (LGU) representatives to discuss the proposal.

Under the single ticketing system, traffic violators will pay a standard amount regardless of the location where the traffic violation was committed.

This will do away with different amounts of fines imposed by different LGUs in Metro Manila and by the MMDA.

Drivers’ licenses will no longer be confiscated as erring motorists will have their licenses “tagged” by the LTO.

Violators may pay their fines online through digital wallets or payment centers registered with the LTO’s Land Transportation Management System.

Among the traffic violations to be included in the single ticketing system are disregarding traffic signs, illegal parking (attended and unattended), reckless driving, driving without license and registration papers, overspeeding, illegal counterflow, not following the number coding scheme, obstruction, and not wearing authorized helmets for motorcycle riders.
