Rider crushed by MMDA tow truck
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday apologized to the family of a motorcycle rider who died after a truck being towed by MMDA personnel crashed into the victim on Saturday.
Reports said the tow bar of the MMDA’s truck broke down, causing the truck to hit the rider.
“I would like to apologize in behalf of the MMDA. I know this is our fault and you can expect that we will do everything to prevent similar incidents from happening again,” acting MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said yesterday.
He vowed to improve the MMDA’s towing services to prevent a repeat of the incident.
Artes told reporters he ordered an investigation of the accident.
“The probe will be headed by MMDA general manager Procopio Lipana,” Artes said.
The tow truck driver was arrested by police.
