2 get life for woman’s slay
IBA, Zambales Philippines — Two persons were sentenced to life in prison for killing a 23-year-old woman in Olongapo City.
Filipino-American Jonathan Dewayne Viane and Niño de la Cruz were found guilty of killing Karie Ces Mojica, whose body was found in a dike in Sto. Tomas River in San Felipe town.
In a ruling handed down recently, Judge Consuelo Bocar of the Regional Trial Court Branch 71 sentenced Viane and Dela Cruz to 20 up to 40 years in prison.
Bocar also ordered Viane and Dela Cruz to pay the family of Mojica P300,000 each in civil, moral and exemplary damages, as well as P50,000 in temperate damages.
Mojica’s body bore strangulation marks and gunshot wounds. She was burned from the legs to the neck.
The victim, a resident of Barangay Sta. Rita, Olongapo City, was reported missing on July 24, 2015. She was found dead the next day.
