MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human (CHR) has conducted an investigation into the reported rape of a nine-year-old girl at an evacuation center in Zamboanga City.
“The CHR strongly condemns the reported rape... As the country’s Gender Ombud, the commission denounces all forms of sexual violence and exploitation, most especially when they involve children and minors,” the CHR said in a statement issued yesterday.
A 46-year-old resident of Barangay Tumaga allegedly raped the victim and gave her P50 afterwards. The suspect denied the allegations.
However, the CHR said a medico-legal report pointed to sexual assault.
“These outright pervasive crimes against the most vulnerable sectors have no place in civil society,” the CHR said. “We look forward to the cooperation and partnership with local law enforcement authorities in solving this case.”
