MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has vowed to start the operation of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension Project as scheduled or by the last quarter of 2024.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista yesterday said the Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) is on track in completing the construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project.
Commuters can expect to use the LRT-1 up to Cavite by September 2024.
“We are on track (to finish the Cavite extension on time). That is the reason we are here, to make arrangements with the LRMC and their contractors so this line will be operational as scheduled,” Bautista said during an ocular inspection of the project.
“We are expecting this line to be operational by September 2024. I’m impressed with the status of the project,” he added.
Updates showed the first segment of the LRT-1 Cavite extension is making progress in terms of civil works.
Construction of all stations has breached the 30-percent completion level.
The LRMC has completed 48.03 percent, 34.06 percent and 30.17 percent of the Dr. A. Santos, Ninoy Aquino and Redemptorist stations, respectively.
The LRT-1 operator registered 37.12 percent and 35.47 percent progress rates for the Asia World and Manila International Airport stations, respectively.
From 20 at present, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project targets to increase the number of railway stations to 28 upon completion of its three phases.
The extension will enable the LRT-1 to reach Bacoor, adding a total of 11 kilometers to the rail line.
The LRMC said the new stations up to Cavite would scale up LRT-1’s capacity to 800,000 passengers per day.
It also aims to boost and improve commercial development near the stations.
“Commuters can expect a comfortable, reliable and modern integrated transport by riding the LRT-1. Travel time from Pasay to Cavite will be cut down from an hour and a half to only 25 to 30 minutes,” the LRMC said.
