Go aids typhoon victims in Roxas City
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go continues to push for the creation of a governing body that will focus on dealing with, preparing for and mitigating the effects of natural and human-induced disasters.
On Friday, Go and Sen. Robinhood Padilla visited and spearheaded a relief effort for 1,200 recovering victims of Typhoon Agaton in Roxas City in Capiz.
In his speech, Go reiterated his appeal to pass Senate Bill No. 188 which aims for the establishment of the Department of Disaster Resilience.
The proposed measure aims to unify and streamline the responsibilities and functions related to the country’s disaster preparedness, provide a clear chain of command and create a more holistic and proactive approach in dealing with emergency situations.
The distribution of relief assistance was held at the covered court in Barangay Adlawan.
Go, Padilla and their team provided grocery packs, vitamins, face masks, meals and shirts to the typhoon victims.
They also distributed cellular phones, shoes, bicycles, watches and balls for basketball and volleyball to select individuals.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also provided financial assistance to each typhoon-affected household.
Go’s team pro-vided similar aid to another batch of beneficiaries at a mall in the city.
The DSWD also provided educational assistance to 200 students.
