Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A motorcycle rider died while his cousin was injured after their vehicle hit a 10-wheeler truck in Quezon City yesterday.

The mishap occurred at the intersection of G. Araneta Avenue and Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard in Barangay Dona Imelda at around 1:05 a.m., according to a report from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD)’s Traffic Sector 4.

Victims Jhon Lui Andes and Christian Arevalo were on their way home to Anonas street from Legarda in Manila when their motorcycle rammed into the cargo truck.

Andes died at the scene while Arevalo was brought by rescuers to a hospital for treatment of multiple abrasions on the body.

Maj. Octavio Ingles Jr., QCPD Station 11 deputy commander, said the accident occurred after the truck driver, Donato Camba, 45, turned left despite a sign barring a left turn.

Camba allegedly tried to escape but was cornered by policemen after a brief chase.

He is being held on charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries and damage to property.
