30 remain missing due to Paeng

MANILA, Philippines — Search and rescue operations continued for 30 persons who remained missing as of yesterday due to Severe Tropical Storm Paeng.

Based on information released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC),  13 of the missing are from Maguindanao, seven from Western Visayas, four from Calabarzon, three from Eastern Visayas and one each from Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa and the Cordilleras.

The number of fatalities rose to 159 yesterday.

Heavy rain, flooding and landslides caused by the storm affected 1,315,083 families or a total of 5,299,716 people across the country.

The NDRRMC said 10,283 families or 46,255 people remain in 214 evacuation centers, mostly in Calabarzon.
