Magnitude-5 quake jolts Cagayan

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude-5 earthquake jolted the coast of Cagayan yesterday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake occurred 11 kilometers west of Dalupuri Island in Calayan town at around 1:34 p.m.

It was felt as Intensity 5 in Calayan; Intensity 4 in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte; Intensity 3 in Luna, Apayao and Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte, and Intensity 2 in Buguey, Lal-lo, Lasam and Peñablanca in Cagayan.

The quake was not expected to cause damage to property, although it could generate aftershocks, Phivolcs said.
