Prosecutor in Calbayog mayor’s slay gets threats
CALBAYOG CITY, Philippines — A prosecutor handling the murder case of the late Calbayog mayor Ronaldo Aquino and three others has revealed that she has been getting threats.
Nine police officers were indicted in the killing of Aquino in an ambush on March 8.
Lawyer Alma Uy-Lampasa said she started getting the threats since she decided to handle the case.
Lampasa said she received information that she was being trailed every time she travels to and from her hometown in Catbalogan City as well as in her court hearings in Calbayog.
Footage from a closed-circuit television camera installed in Lampasa’s residence showed some men lingering nearby.
She expressed belief that this was to pressure her to drop the case filed against the suspects.
Lampasa said the families of the victims were her source of strength to continue handling the case.
She questioned the additional security men provided to the accused police officers.
