Woman arrested for giving THC candies to son, neighbors
MANILA, Philippines — A woman in Valenzuela City was arrested on Oct. 30 for allegedly giving her son and six neighbors candies laced with tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, a major psychoactive component in marijuana.
Sammy Delector Lovino, 48, shared three packs of candies with two minors, including her son, and five neighbors in Llenado Compound in Barangay Malinta, police said.
Those who ate the candies felt dizzy and were all rushed to the Valenzuela Medical Center, with Lovino accompanying them.
The security guard of the compound reported to police that the victims suffered from food poisoning.
When investigators asked Lovino, she turned over the packs of candies, which indicated in the package that they contained 500 milligrams of THC.
She refused to answer where the candies came from or who gave them to her, the police said.
Lovino faces charges under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The law classifies marijuana and its by-products such as THC as “dangerous drugs.”
